I'm so excited today. Went to check the post office and our papers for McGraw SC, or Mickey, were there. I've been anxiously waiting for them to arrive, for no reason in particular.... just still can't believe he is ours.
He's settled in really nicely to his new lifestyle. We've been sure to make sure he gets turn out time so he doesn't become barn sour. But he's cleaned up really nice and has a nice shiny coat now. The only thing we really need to get situated is his feet trimmed properly and grown out. He's turned out to be quite a blessing all around as breeding season is starting up here in Washington and for the past couple years I've been having a hard time getting two older mares bred that need to be bred via live cover. With his build and type, he will compliment them both very nicely and the crosses have been known to produce very athletic horses.
As amazing as it all is, the task of getting him set up for breeding is going to be a difficult one because he will be the first stallion I've worked on getting set up for shipping. We've always just stood our stallions live cover only but he's so unique that there are people all over who are interested in him. Not getting him set up for shipped is really limiting his potential as a breeding stallion. So we paid for an attorney to supply us one document for live cover and artificial on site insemination. We'll use that for this year and his breeding services. We have to finish his DNA testing for any health conditions and work on his sweepstakes nominations.
That really will cover the most of it this year. Then the time consuming thing will be training him to breed a phantom and ground breeding so that we can ship him in the United States. I have to buy the equipment and find a vet that does the work and ship it out. It's a lot of work to get a stallion up and standing for the public. But it's well worth it to have him here. I wouldn't have it any other way right now.
